A substantial early Victorian seal dating to c.1860, crafted in 9ct gold and combining two functions in one unusually impressive piece: a carnelian intaglio seal to the base and a working compass set into the body above. At 19.7 grams, it has a satisfying weight and presence, with a bold sculptural mount that feels almost architectural in the hand.

The carnelian is finely engraved with a heraldic coat of arms beneath a crest, producing a crisp and detailed impression in wax. Above it, the compass is held within the open gold framework, its circular dial visible through the centre and still functioning today. Ribbed and scrolling details around the mount add depth to the design, while the large suspension eyelet allows it to be worn as a substantial pendant or fob.

The combination of heraldic seal and working compass makes this a particularly distinctive Victorian piece, bringing together craftsmanship, symbolism and practical function in one object. Presented in very good antique condition with age-related wear consistent with its age.
