A particularly elegant antique long guard chain dating to around 1900, crafted in 14ct gold and measuring an impressive 50.5 inches in length. The fine trace chain is punctuated at intervals by small sapphire-set stations, introducing flashes of deep blue throughout the exceptionally long gold chain.
Each 3.8mm station is formed as a small rounded gold cluster surrounding old cut sapphires, with the settings incorporated directly into the chain. The arrangement gives the necklace a delicate decorative rhythm without interrupting its fluidity. At over four feet long, it can be worn at full length or doubled, and retains its original period clasp.
Presented in very good antique condition with light age-related wear and patina consistent with its age. The chain remains flexible, the sapphire stations are securely set and the clasp functions correctly.
