An Edwardian 15ct gold bracelet of substantial quality, dating to the early 20th century. The articulated gold links are interspersed with richly coloured carnelian agates in alternating forms, pierced quatrefoil motifs alternating with sugarloaf cabochons. The warm reddish-orange of the carnelian sits particularly well against the yellow gold, a pairing that was deliberate and well understood by Edwardian jewellers. The contrast between the openwork quatrefoils and the sculptural sugarloaf cuts creates a balanced rhythm across the bracelet, giving the design both depth and movement.

Each carnelian has been individually cut and polished before being mounted within heavy 15ct gold fittings. Carnelian, a variety of chalcedony prized since antiquity for its depth of colour and its associations with warmth and vitality was one of the most popular stones in Edwardian jewellery, and the quality of the cutting here reflects the investment made in the piece as a whole. The substantial gold links provide both durability and a reassuring weight. The spring clasp remains fully functional.
