A wonderfully unusual and highly collectable antique 15-carat gold spinner pendant, combining a working compass on one side and a bloodstone intaglio on the other. Crafted in the late Victorian era, the pendant features an ornate scrolling gold mount with beautifully hand-formed loops and detailing, and the spinner turns freely as intended.
One face displays a charming miniature compass, complete with its original dial and glass cover. The reverse holds a rich bloodstone intaglio seal, carved with the image of a leg caught in an old-fashioned trap or device, encircled by a belt-and-buckle border. The Latin motto reads “Cunctando Restituit”, a phrase attributed to the Roman general Fabius Maximus, meaning “He restored things by delaying” or “By biding his time, he restored”. This motto traditionally symbolises patience, strategy, and the wisdom of measured action.
A rare and characterful dual-purpose charm — part jewel, part historical object — perfect for collectors of Victorian seals, unusual charms, or curiosities with meaning.
