An exceptionally rare antique Georgian wedding band dating to around 1840, crafted in rich 18ct gold and bearing the distinctive 'ABDN' mark associated with the Aberdeen Assay Office, together with the maker's mark 'GJ'. Surviving gold jewellery carrying Aberdeen provincial marks is notably scarce, making this simple wedding band particularly appealing from both a jewellery and Scottish collecting perspective.
The ring is formed as a classic court-shaped band, softly rounded both inside and out for a smooth, comfortable profile. Its understated design places all the emphasis on the beautifully warm tone of the high-carat gold and the remarkable survival of its early Scottish marks. Dating to the closing decades of the Georgian period, it is a wonderfully tangible piece of early 19th-century social history.
Presented in very good antique condition with age-related surface wear consistent with nearly two centuries of use. At just 1.6 grams it retains the delicate proportions expected of an early wedding band, while the 18ct gold gives it a particularly rich colour and character.
Inside is marked with italic initials 'JAL'.
