A magnificent antique French guard chain in rich 18ct yellow gold, crafted in a fine and fluid foxtail link that moves with exceptional fluidity along its length. The centrepiece is an exquisite slider set with a vivid faceted amethyst to the front, surrounded by delicate seed pearls, with a beautifully chased reverse — a combination of colour, texture and craftsmanship that speaks to the very finest French goldsmithing of the period.
The slider moves smoothly and freely along the chain, allowing versatile wear at any length. The chain is fitted with its original screw-back dog clasp — a wonderfully ingenious mechanism which, when unscrewed, allows the hinged dog clasp to open, enabling pendants or a pocket watch fob to be attached and removed with ease.
Fabulous antique condition. Chain links are sound throughout with no repairs or weak points noted. Slider functions smoothly. Amethyst and seed pearls remain secure. Clasp mechanism works correctly.
