A vintage Italian brooch dating to the 1970s, crafted in 18ct gold and designed in a richly detailed cannetille revival style. The fan-shaped body is built from radiating gold sections set with rows of seed pearls, centred by a deep red cabochon garnet and finished with a second articulated garnet drop below.
The construction is one of the most interesting features of the piece. Fine gold wire, pierced sections and individually secured pearls create the elaborate historicist look associated with earlier cannetille jewellery, while the reverse reveals the hand-worked assembly in full. The result is a brooch with the visual richness of 19th-century jewellery but made within a later Italian revival tradition.
The brooch carries the Italian identification mark 45 CA together with a 750 fineness mark, identifying 18ct gold and pointing to a registered maker in the province of Cagliari, Sardinia. Presented in very good vintage condition with light age-related wear consistent with its age. The pearls and garnets remain securely set and the articulated lower drop moves freely.
