A truly show-stopping antique cluster ring in 18ct yellow gold, set with eight old mine cut diamonds surrounding a larger central stone — a bold and glamorous design that makes an immediate impression.
The central old mine cut diamond measures approximately 4mm in diameter, estimated at 0.25ct. The eight surrounding stones measure approximately 2.2mm each, estimated at 0.04ct apiece — giving a total estimated diamond weight of 0.55ct. Old mine cut diamonds of this quality and quantity are increasingly sought-after by collectors and connoisseurs of antique jewellery.
The old mine cut, with its characteristic high crown, small table and large culet, produces a warm, romantic sparkle quite unlike a modern brilliant cut — the light they return is soft, deep and full of character. In candlelight or low evening light these stones come alive in a way no modern cut can replicate.
The cluster setting is substantial and well-made, with each diamond held securely in a claw setting that allows maximum light to pass through the stones. A very showy piece in the best possible sense — the sort of ring that commands attention across a room.
Very good antique condition. All nine old mine cut diamonds present and secure. Stones bright and lively throughout.
