A substantial Victorian signet ring dated precisely to 1871, crafted in rich 18ct gold and formed with a broad shield-shaped face. The front has been left plain, giving the ring a strong sculptural presence while also leaving the surface suitable for engraving if desired.
At 11 grams, this is a notably heavy example, with broad shoulders flowing into the shield-shaped head and giving the ring a solid, confident feel on the hand. The high-carat gold and substantial construction make it especially appealing as an original Victorian signet.
The interior carries clear Birmingham hallmarks for 1871 together with the Queen Victoria duty mark. Presented in very good antique condition with light age-related wear consistent with its age.
