A 22ct gold court shaped wedding band of Scottish origin, bearing the original Glasgow thistle hallmark, the town mark used by the Glasgow Assay Office, alongside Queen Victoria's duty mark and the maker's mark WM. The Glasgow thistle is one of the most distinctive and sought after of all British assay office marks, and its presence here places this ring firmly within a named tradition of Scottish goldsmithing.

The court shaped profile, gently rounded on both the inner and outer surfaces, gives the band a comfort and wearability that flat shanks of the period do not always achieve. It sits on the finger with the ease of a ring that was made to be worn every day, which of course it was.

22ct gold gives this ring a depth of colour and warmth that lower carats cannot replicate. Wedding bands of this age and quality from a named Scottish assay office are genuinely collectable pieces of social history as much as they are jewellery.

Lovely antique condition.
