A classic Victorian buckle ring crafted in 9ct gold, engraved throughout with intricate scrollwork and set with a vibrant garnet and a natural seed pearl. The belt and buckle motif was one of the Victorian era's most enduring symbols, representing loyalty, strength and an unbreakable bond, making these rings highly sought after by collectors today.
The broad gold band is richly hand engraved with flowing foliate decoration, while the buckle is modelled in relief across the front, creating the illusion of a belt fastened securely around the finger. A deep crimson garnet and lustrous seed pearl are set into opposing engraved panels, providing striking contrast against the warm gold. Every surface has been thoughtfully finished, demonstrating the level of craftsmanship expected of quality Victorian jewellery.
Buckle rings became enormously popular throughout the nineteenth century, particularly following Queen Victoria's influence on sentimental jewellery. The fastening of a belt symbolised fidelity, protection and everlasting affection, making these rings cherished gifts between loved ones. Examples retaining their original engraving and gemstone settings remain increasingly desirable among collectors today.
The ring remains in excellent antique condition with light age-related wear consistent with careful preservation. The engraved decoration remains crisp, the garnet and seed pearl are securely set, and the buckle motif is beautifully defined.
