A finely crafted antique pendant dating to c.1900, fashioned in 9ct gold and centred with a richly symbolic design. A distinctive antique pendant dating to c.1900, crafted in 9ct gold filled metal and bringing together a remarkable collection of Victorian lucky symbols. At its centre, a horseshoe surrounds a shamrock set with paste stones, and red paste, while a finely modelled hound's head completes the suspension above.
The circular centre is mounted within a freely suspended frame, allowing the pendant to turn and reveal an intricately engine-turned honeycomb pattern to the reverse. Each element carries its own meaning: the horseshoe for good fortune and protection and the shamrock for luck. Combined with the sporting hound motif, the result is an unusually characterful example of the Victorian fascination with symbolism and personal talismans.
Presented in excellent antique condition, with the gemstones securely set and the engine-turned decoration remaining crisp and well defined. The 9ct gold filled finish is well preserved throughout, with only light age-related wear consistent with a piece dating back more than a century.
