A 9ct gold locket in the form of a horseshoe — one of the most popular good luck symbols of the Victorian period, worn as a talisman and given as a token of good fortune. The horseshoe form is executed with care, the detailing mirrored on the front and back — a mark of quality that distinguishes this from more hastily produced pieces of the period.
Fitted with its original faceted jump ring.
Both acrylic panel and insert present inside.
Era: Victorian, c.1880
Hallmarks:
Unmarked, tests as 9ct gold back and front. This means the rest would be made up of a base metal which was a common structure for lockets during this period.
