A 9ct gold locket with ivy chased to the front and a heart framed by further ivy to the back — a combination of two of the most charged symbols in Victorian jewellery. Ivy meant fidelity, eternal love and constancy — it clings, it grows, it does not let go. The heart on the reverse makes the message explicit.
The ivy motif appears on lockets throughout the Victorian period but is rarely executed with this degree of consistency — front and back both carrying the vine, the back adding the heart at its centre. This is a piece where the decoration was chosen with intention.
One glass panel and one acrylic replacement inside — noted for accuracy.
