A beautifully engraved Edwardian 9ct yellow gold back and front locket, decorated with elegant hand-engraved scrolling foliage across the front and framed by a raised repoussé floral border. Richly coloured and wonderfully tactile, it is a classic example of late Victorian sentimental jewellery.
The front features an intricate display of bright-cut engraving, with flowing botanical scrollwork catching the light from every angle. A vacant cartouche to the lower section was left for the original owner to personalise with initials or a monogram, while the decorative border gives the piece added depth and presence.
Lockets were among the most treasured pieces of Edwardian jewellery, worn to hold miniature portraits or cherished photographs of loved ones. Their deeply personal nature made them enduring keepsakes, passed down through generations as family heirlooms.
Presented in very good antique condition with crisp engraving, a secure hinge and clasp, ready to house two treasured photographs once again.

The back is marked '9ct front & back'. This means the front and back panels are solid 9ct. During the Victorian and Edwardian periods this was designed to help strengthen the locket by incorporating a stronger base metal in the frame.
