A wonderfully unusual antique Victorian 9ct gold and New Zealand nephrite pendant, beautifully carved in the shape of an old book and dating to c.1890. The nephrite is expertly worked, with exquisite detailing throughout, and is enhanced by a finely chased 9ct gold centrepiece running down both the front and the back.
The front is further decorated with a New Zealand leaf motif and the letters “NZ” at the top, giving the pendant strong national and historical character. Presented in brilliant condition, this is a rare and thoughtfully made piece, combining skilled carving with elegant goldwork. A charming and highly collectible Victorian pendant.
