A refined Edwardian pendant dating to c.1905, showcasing a finely polished tapering section of genuine New Zealand nephrite mounted in 9ct gold. Its clean, elegant form allows the rich greenstone to take centre stage, reflecting the understated sophistication and exceptional craftsmanship of the Edwardian period.
Carved from a single piece of nephrite and polished to reveal its deep, even green tone, the pendant is finished with a simple 9ct gold cap and suspension loop that complements the stone beautifully. Known in New Zealand as pounamu or greenstone, nephrite has been treasured for centuries for its remarkable toughness, natural beauty and cultural significance. By the turn of the twentieth century, it had become increasingly fashionable in Britain, prized for both its striking appearance and its connection to the wider Empire.
The pendant remains in excellent antique condition with light wear commensurate with age. The nephrite retains a beautiful natural polish with no significant damage, while the 9ct gold mount is crisp and well preserved. A timeless piece of antique jewellery, it can be worn as a pendant or suspended from an Albert chain as a traditional fob.
