An antique 9ct gold snake ring, the serpent coiled gracefully around the finger with its head meeting the gently tapering tail. The design captures the fluid form of the snake while retaining the timeless symbolism that has made serpent jewellery enduringly popular for centuries. Associated with eternity, renewal, wisdom, and everlasting love, snake rings have been worn since antiquity and experienced a particular resurgence during the Victorian era.
The serpent's original ruby eyes remain present and intact, adding a subtle flash of colour and preserving an important original feature that is often lost or replaced over time. The ring also retains its original hallmarks.
Very good antique condition with light age-related wear consistent with its age. A classic example of antique serpent jewellery with enduring historical significance.
