A Masonic ball pendant of exceptional rarity and ingenuity — the hinged arms securing the ball can be unpinned and the ball itself unfolds to reveal Masonic pyramid symbols within. This is the kind of object that stops people in their tracks: apparently a plain rose gold and silver sphere, it conceals an entire symbolic world inside.

Masonic jewellery of this complexity was produced for senior members of the fraternity who wished to carry their symbols with them in a form that was neither obvious nor ostentatious. The ball form — closed, plain, unremarkable — opens only to those who know how. The symbolism within is precise and deliberate.

The combination of 9ct gold and silver is characteristic of quality British Masonic pieces of the late Victorian and Edwardian periods.
