A particularly decorative early Victorian glass locket dating to c.1850, formed in 9ct gold filled with chased floral decoration running around the entire outer border. The front and back are glass, creating a clear central compartment while the richly engraved frame gives the piece a lovely presence.
The locket opens on a side hinge to reveal an internal space around 2.5mm deep, making it suitable for tiny loose keepsakes such as gemstones, seed pearls, or other small mementos. The circular glass panels remain clear and the chasing is still well defined, with scrolling floral and foliate detail continuing around the edge.
A very appealing early Victorian keepsake piece, combining the practicality of a shaker-style locket with unusually ornate gold cased decoration. Presented in very good antique condition with age-related wear consistent with its age.
