A fine antique Edwardian locket pendant by Murrle Bennett & Co., crafted in 9ct gold and set with turquoise and seed pearls. The circular design centres on a glass-fronted compartment, surrounded by alternating turquoise and pearls, with further stones arranged through the decorative foliate surmount.
The pendant retains the original front glass panel, whilst the back is a replacement acrylic, allowing a photograph, miniature or other keepsake to be displayed. The rear compartment is hinged and opens as shown, an unusual and particularly appealing feature that adds to the functionality of the piece.
Dating to around 1900, this is a distinctive example of Murrle Bennett's Edwardian jewellery, combining turquoise, pearls and flowing naturalistic detail. Presented in very good antique condition with light age-related wear.
