A finely detailed Edwardian swallow brooch dating to the Edwardian era, crafted in 15ct gold and modelled as a bird in full flight carrying a tiny seed pearl-set sprig in its beak. The outstretched wings are intricately textured to suggest individual feathers, giving the swallow a remarkable sense of movement, while the small branch with its two leaves provides an unusual finishing detail.

Swallows were among the most meaningful motifs in late Victorian and Edwardian jewellery. Their instinct to travel great distances before returning to the same nesting place made them symbols of safe return, loyalty and devotion, particularly poignant during an era when journeys could separate loved ones for long periods. The tiny pearl-set sprig carried in its beak adds another layer of naturalistic detail characteristic of jewellery from the period.

Presented in excellent antique condition, with the feather detail remaining crisp and the seed pearls securely set. The original pin fitting remains to the reverse, while the 15ct gold retains its rich warm tone after more than a century.
