A beautiful late 19th century Austro-Hungarian navette ring dating to around 1890, crafted in 14ct gold and centred with a rich blue sapphire surrounded by a halo of old rose cut diamonds. The elongated navette-shaped setting gives the ring an elegant period profile, while the darker sapphire provides a striking contrast against the softer sparkle of the antique diamonds.
The central faceted sapphire measures approximately 0.25ct and is held within a claw setting. Surrounding it is a closely set border of individually shaped old rose cut diamonds, each approximately 1mm across. Their irregular hand-cut facets create the softer, characterful sparkle associated with antique diamond jewellery, while the split shoulders lead neatly into the slender gold band.
Presented in very good antique condition with age-related wear consistent with its age. The sapphire and diamonds remain securely set and the openwork gallery beneath the cluster allows the stones to sit prominently above the finger.
