A beautifully detailed Victorian keepsake locket dating to around 1880, crafted in 15ct gold and centred with a rich red oval garnet. The front is finely engraved with scrolling floral and foliate decoration over a textured ground, with the garnet raised at the centre to create a strong contrast against the warm gold.
Turn the pendant over and the reverse reveals a removable glazed insert, designed to hold a miniature photograph, lock of hair or other personal keepsake. The combination of garnet, engraved goldwork and concealed compartment gives this small pendant far more presence than its size suggests.
Presented in very good antique condition with light age-related wear consistent with its age. The garnet remains securely set, the engraved detail is well preserved and the removable glass insert is still present.
