A fine Victorian 15ct gold oval locket dating to c.1890, exceptionally well finished with a deeply textured repeating pattern covering both the front and reverse. The centre of the front features a polished shield-shaped cartouche, finely engraved with Pegasus motif.
The locket opens to reveal a single glass panel for holding a photograph or keepsake. Particularly nice is the original-style faceted split ring, allowing the locket to be easily attached to a chain. At 12.66 grams, this is a substantial and very well-made example of late Victorian gold jewellery.
Excellent antique condition, with the intricate exterior decoration remaining remarkably crisp and the locket opening and closing correctly. A distinctive Victorian locket combining unusual Pegasus imagery with particularly strong quality and craftsmanship.
