A beautifully detailed antique Victorian fob seal dating to around 1880, crafted in 9ct gold cased metal and set with a pale chalcedony intaglio engraved with a standing hound. The crisp animal engraving gives the seal a wonderfully distinctive character, while the softly translucent stone provides a subtle contrast against the warm gold mount.
The body of the seal is particularly decorative, with deeply modelled scrolling foliate detail and a sculptural terminal above the stone. Despite measuring only 20mm high, the mount has a substantial quality and feels considerably more elaborate than a simple plain seal.
Presented in very good antique condition with age-related wear and patina consistent with its age. The chalcedony remains securely set and the engraved hound remains clearly defined.
