A substantial antique long guard chain dating to around 1900, crafted in 9ct rolled gold and formed from a repeating pattern of rounded and flattened links. The closely articulated construction gives the chain a wonderfully fluid feel, while the warm gold finish has developed an attractive antique character.
At a52.5" in length, this is a classic long guard design intended to be worn long, doubled around the neck or used to suspend a favourite locket, seal or pendant. It retains its original decorative dog clip, providing an especially useful attachment point while adding another distinctive period detail.
Weighing an impressive 35.7 grams, the chain has considerably more substance than many surviving rolled gold examples. Presented in very good antique condition with age-related wear and patina consistent with its age, while the links remain flexible and the dog clip functions correctly.
