A particularly unusual antique Victorian long guard chain dating to around 1890, crafted in 9ct rolled gold and measuring an impressive 51.5 inches in length. The chain is formed from hundreds of articulated star pierced rectangular links, creating a wonderfully fluid construction with a warm antique gold finish.
What makes this example especially distinctive is the repeated star piercing through every individual link. The tiny openwork stars continue along the entire length of the chain, creating a striking geometric pattern that becomes increasingly apparent when viewed closely. At over four feet long, it can be worn at its full length, doubled around the neck or used to suspend an antique locket, pendant or fob.
Presented in very good antique condition with age-related wear and patina consistent with its Victorian manufacture. The articulated links remain flexible and the distinctive star-pierced decoration is well preserved throughout.
