A striking antique Victorian bracelet dating to around 1890, set throughout with deep red Bohemian garnets in a rolled gold setting. The bracelet is formed from a sequence of articulated floral clusters, each centred with a larger oval garnet and surrounded by six smaller stones, creating a continuous richly coloured design around the wrist.
Particularly interesting are the varied cuts of the garnets. Rather than the uniform modern brilliant cuts seen in later jewellery, the stones display individual faceting and proportions, giving the bracelet a wonderfully lively appearance as the facets catch the light. The open-backed construction also allows light to pass through the garnets, bringing out their characteristic deep wine-red colour.
The bracelet measures 6.5 inches in length and is finished with a concealed box clasp and safety chain. Presented in very good antique condition, with light age-related wear consistent with a piece dating to the late nineteenth century.
