A truly remarkable antique Victorian 9ct gold locket of exceptional quality, richly decorated with exquisite hand-applied enamel work depicting pink roses and delicate blue forget-me-not flowers set against a vivid blue enamel ground. At the centre sits a finely detailed forget-me-not bloom set with a small pearl, adding a soft luminous accent and enhancing the romantic symbolism of the piece.
This highly unusual and finely engineered locket features a rare dual-opening design: the front opens conventionally as a locket, while the inner compartment is also independently hinged and opens from the top, revealing a concealed secondary keepsake space. It retains its original glass panel, further attesting to its authenticity and survival.
The reverse is intricately chased with elegant detailing, completing the piece beautifully on all sides. Of particular importance, it retains its original diamond registration mark, dating the design precisely to August 1871, offering valuable historical provenance and confirming its Victorian origin.
A truly one-of-a-kind collector’s piece combining fine craftsmanship, sentimental symbolism, and rare mechanical ingenuity.
