A striking Art Deco butterfly wing ring dating to c.1930, crafted in sterling silver with a rhodium-plated finish. The oval face depicts a fashionable woman set against the intense iridescent blue of genuine butterfly wing, creating the shifting colour and luminosity for which this distinctive period jewellery is known.
Butterfly wing jewellery became particularly fashionable during the Art Deco period, with the naturally iridescent material used as a backdrop for miniature painted scenes and figures. Here, the wing creates the vivid blue of the woman's dress, while painted details in red, black and cream complete the composition. The portrait is protected beneath a clear glass dome and surrounded by a twisted rope-style silver border.
The reverse is clearly stamped MADE IN ENGLAND, STERLING SILVER and RHODIUM PLATE. Presented in very good vintage condition with light age-related wear consistent with its period.
