A 9ct gold pendant set with Blue John to both sides of the piece — the distinctive Derbyshire fluorite with its characteristic purple and yellow banding, found only in the Blue John caverns of Castleton in Derbyshire. No two pieces of Blue John are identical, and the vibrant banding on this example is particularly well defined.
Blue John jewellery has been produced since the 18th century and remains one of the most distinctively British of all gem materials — entirely local in origin, immediately recognisable, and impossible to replicate with any other stone.
The decorative top mount is well made, the overall piece of very good quality.
