A 9ct gold ring set with a deep red ruby cabochon (0.25ct) at the centre, flanked on either side by a trefoil of three single cut diamonds. The combination of the domed ruby and the diamond trefoils gives the ring a distinctly sculptural quality — the stones arranged to draw the eye inward to the depth of the cabochon.
Ruby cabochons of this period were cut to emphasise colour and depth over brilliance — the smooth domed surface concentrating the red rather than breaking it into facets. This one measures 5mm × 3mm, a good size for the ring and well proportioned against the diamond trefoils flanking it.
The setting and construction are characteristic of British gold jewellery of the late 1960s and early 1970s — solid, well made and built to wear. The six single cut diamonds flanking the ruby
are typical of the period, small accent stones used to frame the central gem without competing with it.
Very good condition. All stones present and secure. The ruby retains strong colour throughout.
